Planning Consultation

The planning consultation takes place via phone and is our chance to get to know each other and plan out all the details including scheduling, location, wardrobe, goals for the session, and how you envision displaying your artwork.

Photo Session

The on-location photo session typically lasts 1-2 hours.  Based on our planning consultation, I will tailor the photo session to your pet’s personality and the overall look and feel we are trying to achieve.  We will take our time and I will capture a combination of posed, candid, and action shots.  Plenty of playtime and belly rubs guaranteed!

Megan was simply a joy to work with! My dog Piper was timid the day of our shoot, but Megan knew exactly how to talk to Piper to get her to calm down. I couldn’t be more pleased with the entire experience, and the pictures speak for themselves - she made Piper look like a supermodel!

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

I live in Houston, Texas and serve clients in Houston and the surrounding suburbs.  Houston offers a wide variety of urban and rural settings, so we are sure to find the perfect spot for your on-location photo session.  I am happy to travel outside the Houston area, but additional travel fees may apply.

Why choose Megan Murray Photography?

It can be difficult to choose the perfect photographer for your family.  I set myself apart by specializing in candid on-location pet photography and providing my clients with a personalized experience resulting in beautiful, tangible artwork.

My dog is not trained or needs to stay on a leash.  Will we be able to get good photos?

Don't worry!  Training is not required to achieve great images.  I have worked with a variety of different dog personalities - patience, space, treats, noises, and toys go a long way towards turning your pet into a supermodel!  Most of the dogs featured on my website were photographed with leashes on.  If the leash distracts from the image, many times it can be removed in post-processing

Do you photograph people with their dogs?

Absolutely yes!  While your dog will be the star of the session, I always encourage my clients to get in at least a few photos, as those memories of you with your best friend are priceless.

How can I display my images?

Good question!  I will work with you all the way until your artwork is proudly displayed in your home or office!  Most clients choose to purchase something nice to hang on the wall, and I offer several options to suit a variety of home decor styles.  Custom designed albums and smaller prints for displaying on bookshelves, desks, and tables are also popular.  During the ordering appointment, you will get to see and touch samples of all the products.  Digital images are also available for personal use and sharing on social media.

How much is a session with Megan Murray Photography?

Your total investment depends on how many images you fall in love with and how you'd like to display them.  A non-refundable retainer of $400 is required to book your session, which includes a planning consultation, an on-location photo session, and an in-person ordering appointment.  100% of your retainer becomes a product credit to spend on your artwork.

When do you hold sessions?

Outdoor on-location sessions are typically held either in the early morning or early evening hours when the sun is low in the sky, as these times provide the most flattering natural light.  Indoor in-home sessions can be held at various times of the day depending on the available light.  Please note that I only take a limited number of clients each month to ensure the highest quality service, so book early to reserve your preferred date!

I only want 1 or 2 photos.  Do you offer mini-sessions?

Shorter limited edition sessions are held a few times each year on specific dates (e.g. bluebonnet season).  My email subscribers receive priority booking for limited edition sessions.  Sign up to get VIP perks!

Lola can be a little grumpy with strangers, so I was worried we’d have trouble getting good shots. Lola warmed up quickly to Megan, and Megan planned the location well, which resulted in amazing pictures of my baby!
